Stories

For the launch of the Pavilion House by the award-winning Melbourne architect Rob Kennon, we are delighted to (re)introduce the Crafted Collection, a suite of bespoke furniture. Located on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, the Pavilion House served as the creative foundation for this collection.

Pavilion House by Rob Kennon Architects, a rule-based approach to design.

Pavilion House, designed by Rob Kennon, is a low-lying dwelling that effortlessly blends with its garden surroundings.

This project exemplifies a rule-based design strategy. ‘Basic building elements (floor, walls, rafters etc) were analysed and developed into a suite of repeatable components, deployed across the site in accordance with established datum lines.’ explains Rob. This approach ‘lets the spaces design themselves’.

The house is characterised by its thermally efficient painted brickwork, which contrasts with the warm hues of cork flooring and an American oak ceiling. This continuous material palette creates a cohesive, non-hierarchical backdrop that allows spaces to evolve with the needs of their occupants over time.

The Story Behind the Crafted Collection

The collection was born from an opportunity to furnish the Pavilion House. The clients, seeking a harmonious combination of design and functionality, commissioned Made by Morgen to develop a range of custom furniture that would complement their home's architectural ethos. We were fortunate to take several of our prototypes and refine them into what has become the essence of the Crafted Collection.

The third collection of Made By Morgen, echoes Rob Kennon Architects' design approach, utilising a consistent selection of high-quality materials like FSC-certified American Oak and natural Danish cord. Just as the house’s design prioritises light, ventilation, and acoustic separation, the furniture pieces are designed to enhance the living experience, exuding simplicity, quality, and craftsmanship.

This beach house features various pieces of furniture, such as beds, tables, seating, and storage. The traditional weaving technique with woven Danish cord brings a warm, earthy, textural feel.

Made by Morgen’s design philosophy of solid timber, exposed joinery and subtle detailing is evident in the construction of the furniture.

A commitment to quality, craftsmanship and thoughtful design.

“At Made by Morgen, we believe that great design is about more than just aesthetics; it’s about creating pieces that enrich how people live”, explains Nick, founder and director at Made By Morgen. The Crafted Collection is a testament to this philosophy, with each piece carefully crafted to reflect the architectural stateliness of Rob Kennon and his team’s Pavilion House. The collection is designed to be functional and versatile, allowing it to adapt to the evolving needs of modern living spaces.

"Our goal was to create furniture that not only complements the architectural beauty of Pavilion House but also enhances the living experience within such spaces," says Nick. "The Crafted Collection truly reflects our commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and thoughtful design."
